Hi, I performed an: $ sudo apt-get update followed by $ sudo apt-get upgrade Then I rebooted the device, and it would not boot up. The red and yellow lights on the board stayed steady, and it was unaccessible over the network. I flashed the SD card back to before the upgrade, and it's working again. Is this an expected issue?
No, this is not an expected issue. It's unexpected. Thanks a lot for having highlighted this problem.
Same thing happened to me...repeatable (four times). The last time, I did: setup SD, boot to udoo, setup WiFi password, reboot. That worked (I wanted to confirm I could reboot at all, without doing apt-get stuff!) Rebooted ok. This means the distro image *can* reboot! Did apt-get update, apt-get upgrade NOTE: got error in 'upgrade': ...did a second "apt-get upgrade" which completed with no errors. did 'sync' tried: reboot ... wouldn't come up. repeated above, and then tried "shutdown -h" followed by a power cycle ... wouldn't come up. Note: not sure about first two tests, but in the last two tests (i.e., create SD image, do initial bootup, setup wifi, do apt-get update / apt-get upgrade) I got the dpkg error each time. On another thread somewhere, someone suggested doing: dpkg --add-architecture armhf I did it, but it wasn't a clean/good/valid test (because I'd already done one attempt at apt-update), and the subsequent reboot failed. If I get ambitious, I'll do a new image, boot to it, do the 'add', then try apt-get update/upgrade and see what happens.
Same here, Flash SD on Linux, then apt-get update & apt-get upgrade as first thing done. Boot failed. Repeated couple times, always same reuslt, I thing the Linux-image is somehow broken
> If I get ambitious, I'll do a new image, boot to it, do the 'add', then try apt-get update/upgrade and see what happens.

I tried again, first doing the dkpg add-architecture, then apt-get update , apt-get upgrade, reboot ... failed.
Based on some past (bad) experiences with other small board computers, I re-imaged the SD, booted up, copied over about 1000 files of C source code / headers / etc, and compiled about 500 programs ... heavy disk activity, and the system later rebooted with no problem. (I'd wondered if the problem was with the file system, and the "apt-get" was overwriting the end somehow ... but now I doubt that possibility.)
Dear folks, now sudo apt-get update or sudo apt-get upgrade shouldn't hang the board anymore. Could you try it and tell us if it works for you or not?

I got same erroe while I upgrade as sieler described. --snip-- Processing triggers for mime-support (3.54ubuntu1.1) ... sieler, Do you try reboot by command?. my neo is booting successfully after I reset the power. how about your neo?
Kevin...did your reboot succeed *after* doing an "apt-get update" and then "apt-get upgrade"? (No one else reporting on the thread had that success) I've tried the reset button, 'reboot' command, and power cycling ... I've done the killer "apt-get upgrade" about 8 times now, with different variations of other things (e.g., with/without a sync, a dpkg add, or other compilation / file system work)). The only time any reboot succeeds is if I have not yet done an "apt-get upgrade". Prior to the 'upgrade', things work. After the upgrade, no reboot of any kind works.
That's interesting. In my case, yes, I tried reboot by command at the first time. but neo was pending to reboot. So, I plug off and plug in the power. That's all I have done. udooer@udooneo:/etc$ cat os-release NAME="Ubuntu" VERSION="14.04.3 LTS, Trusty Tahr" ID=ubuntu ID_LIKE=debian PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS" VERSION_ID="14.04" HOME_URL="http://www.ubuntu.com/" SUPPORT_URL="http://help.ubuntu.com/" BUG_REPORT_URL="http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/" udooer@udooneo:/etc$ uname -a Linux udooneo 3.14.28-udooneo-04206-g9e7d486 #31 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 12 16:22:15 CET 2015 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux udooer@udooneo:/etc$
thanks.... this thread is specifically about something you haven't tried yet (I.e., apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade, followed by reboot)
Hi, I had the same error after apt-get upgrade. I did a reboot command and the neo hadn't came up. after a button reboot neo is up and running. greetz
I somehow managed it by apt-get update apt-get upgrade, then install mc( for seeing logs), the apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and reboot worked. I dont know why, maybe I was just lucky
