It’s time to say goodbye to the fist UDOO board. But first, take a step back with us. It’s 2013 and a group of dreamers has created something new: the very first UDOO. They’re new to the scene of technology, and just hope that their project gets enough attention to be released. They need 27.000$.
With trembling breath, the countdown starts: 4, 3, 2, 1…go! Published. With trembling breath they waited and, in little more than an hour, they didn’t just reach their goal, but 100.000€ . The clock keeps ticking, and people’s interest keeps growing.
In just a few days the team gets calls from major media outlets, like Make, Tom’s Hardware and CNN. Soon people ask for stretch goals, and the team sets impossible stretch goals: 500.000$ and 600.000$.
By the time all is over, they’ve reached a little over 640.000$.
The very first UDOO felt like an impossible dream coming true, but that always comes with a price: we had the weight of the world’s eyes watching and over 4000 people to please.
Fast forward to 2020. Many things have happened, new UDOO boards have been released and attention towards the original UDOO has depleted. It’s said that 1 human year is 7 years in the dog world. In technology the ratio is more like 1 to 15 years.
So, it is time. Now that our first creature is 105 years old, it’s time to let it go, and move on to new projects.
It feels weird. It feels like there’s something wrong in it. But we need to do it. So here it is: the UDOO DUAL BASIC, the UDOO DUAL and the UDOO QUAD are not going to be produced anymore, and the last few have been sold to an interested company.
If you have one, you can grab some accessories on sale while supply lasts:
The Micro SD with pre-loaded Linux – 8.40$ 6$
The cable kit for DUAL and QUAD – 14.50$ 10$
The starter kit EU – 29.99$ 20$
The starter kit US – 29.99$ 20$
If you have just bought one of these though, don’t worry! We have a small supply of boards left, to guarantee that our customers will have the support they need while their warranty is still valid.
So, this is it for today, we just felt like sharing what we’re feeling around the office, instead of a sterile announcement. Let the UDOO DUAL and QUAD bow one last time and say goodbye with us to the very first UDOO board.
And that’s all for today folks!
