FairWind, the Android, cloud-based navigation system for small yachts that we told you about three weeks ago, placed first (!) at Contest Università, XXX edition of Festival della Scienza Futuro Remoto, a famous event held in Naples, Italy, on 7 to 10 October that attracted about 200 thousands people, dedicated to innovation, science and the Maker Movement. The topic was topic App and Videogames.
The team was mainly composed by students of the Department of Science and Technology of the Università degli Studi di Napoli “Parthenope”.

The prototype, based on UDOO Quad, was made available to visitors at the Isola Laboratori Tematici del Villaggio della Scienza in Piazza del Plebiscito. If you got some spare time, feel like sailing and you want to make your boat a smart boat you can also build the system yourself: the project is already published on Hackster.io, with lots of photos and an exhaustive explanation to walk you through the build till the very end.
FairWind is an IoT system for navigation based on open source technologies, that combines the flexibility of a cloud solution with on-board electronics of the yacht for smart yachting.
The system allows participation of all the crowd to the real-time monitoring of the sea environment through the acquisition of data during the navigation.
