I just got my Neo booting and reachable from my laptop. I am running El Capitan, so I can't use the usb/network, but got wifi working by connecting up a USB serial adapter to the console uart pins and manually editing files. (Luckily, I could mostly copy from my rpi.) When I got VNC working, at first I thought something was broken. It showed the old-school X11 grey-dot pattern for >1min. I finally realized what was happening when I say OOM killer log messages on the console, and realized that the IO led was solid on. I eventually got a desktop, but clearly the machine is struggling. I post this mostly for others, so they are less surprised by the experience.
Looking for some links that walk through how to do this, I found: http://linuxcommando.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-to-connect-to-wpawpa2-wifi-network.html which is better than anything I could have put together.
