Hi all! This topic gathers users with UDOOs that won't boot because of bad flashed micro SD cards, typically corrupted memory cards or when the image file isn't properly flashed (e.g. was written in a partition). If your UDOO won't boot, first follow our troubleshooting procedure: Why my UDOO won't boot? http://www.udoo.org/faq-items/why-my-udoo-wont-boot/ and then post the results here before asking for support so we can better understand what's going on with your UDOO and help you out. Here you can find a step by step guide about how to create a bootable micro SD card: http://www.udoo.org/getting-started/cre ... rom-image/ Video tutorial "Creating a bootable Micro SD card with Linux Ubuntu from image": http://www.udoo.org/ProjectsAndTutorial ... lioID=1394 Video tutorial "Creating a bootable Micro SD card using Windows from image": http://www.udoo.org/ProjectsAndTutorial ... lioID=1394 Video tutorial "Creating a bootable Micro SD card with Mac OS X from image": http://www.udoo.org/ProjectsAndTutorial ... lioID=1394
Hi all, I posted this in another topic some days ago (I hope you don't consider it cross-posting) I can't boot with Linaro Dual version. After downloaded it: on Windows XP and 8 - winrar warning message (corrupted file) but extraction OK - winzip no extraction corrupted file - 7zip extraction OK no error message on Linux - unzip OK and also dd writing But in every case my udoo doesn't boot. I tried with different sd cards (Transcend, Kingston). Also no boot with Android. The power seems ok, led green on. In debug mode (connecting microusb to CN6 port) black screen on Teraterm (Windows). On Linux after powered the board [ 3211.260065] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device number 4 using uhci_hcd [ 3211.439429] cp210x 3-1:1.0: cp210x converter detected [ 3211.552074] usb 3-1: reset full speed USB device number 4 using uhci_hcd [ 3211.699657] usb 3-1: cp210x converter now attached to ttyUSB0 [ 3212.096712] usb 3-1: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by cp210x while 'brltty' sets config #1 [ 3212.101831] cp210x ttyUSB0: cp210x converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0 [ 3212.101863] cp210x 3-1:1.0: device disconnected On Windows using Putty I saw once some data in the terminal log but I can copy only the last part. Just for info for anybody who had the same problem as me today: I had an issue when I formatted one of the SD cards I got with my UDOO, for some weird reason after the formatting only 12.6MB was available (quick or full formatting made no difference). I think this is an issue with Windows, but in case anybody else had the same problem: I've fixed this by formatting the SD card with a program called SDFormatter, if you have the same problem you should try this!
Hi, My UDOO Quad won't boot. I initially tried both the Android Quad and Linux Quad cards (AND the reset button). I followed the troubleshooting procedure using serial debug, downloaded Android Quad and created a new SD card image. Still wouldn't boot. I tested the SD card media by making a Raspberry Pi image on it- which worked fine on the Pi. Figured the media itself was OK I tried a new 12Vdc supply - still nothing on HDMI or serial debug. Am running out of ideas...
Hi, I have trouble booting the Linaro Ubunto image. I have tried the Android image without any problems, using the same SD card. The Micro SD card used is a Kingston MicroSDHC, type SDC10/8GB. I have transferred the image to the SD card on a windows 7 platform, 64 bit, via the Win32DiskImager software. The log from the serial debug connection is shown below: U-Boot 2009.08-svn82 (Oct 07 2013 - 13:43:50) CPU: Freescale i.MX6 family TO1.2 at 792 MHz Thermal sensor with ratio = 180 Temperature: 46 C, calibration data 0x57250069 mx6q pll1: 792MHz mx6q pll2: 528MHz mx6q pll3: 480MHz mx6q pll8: 50MHz ipg clock : 66000000Hz ipg per clock : 66000000Hz uart clock : 80000000Hz cspi clock : 60000000Hz ahb clock : 132000000Hz axi clock : 264000000Hz emi_slow clock: 132000000Hz ddr clock : 528000000Hz usdhc1 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc2 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc3 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc4 clock : 198000000Hz nfc clock : 24000000Hz Board: i.MX6Q-UDOO: unknown-board Board: 0x63012 [POR] Boot Device: NOR I2C: ready DRAM: 1 GB MMC: FSL_USDHC: 0,FSL_USDHC: 1,FSL_USDHC: 2,FSL_USDHC: 3 In: serial Out: serial Err: serial Net: got MAC address from IIM: 00:c0:08:88:17:02 FEC0 [PRIME] Hit any key to stop autoboot: 3 2 1 0 mmc2 is current device Loading file "/boot/uImage" from mmc device 2:1 (xxc1) 4119112 bytes read ## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 10800000 ... reading that it seems like its having issues reading the filesystem. something either didnt get written properly or the card has bad spots on it somehow..
i would have to agree, that log is full of filesystem level errors. I would suggest using SDFormatter http://goo.gl/hxtjB Performa full format of the SD card (enable the 'resize' option) When its done re-image the SD card with the Linaro image and try again
Hi Guys, Before making a hustle on doing some serial reads and stuff, i just wanted to know if image of the yocto-os available on the website actually works? Did not read anything on the forums about it! Just wanted to give it a try and it turned out as a bad idea.. By the way: Would be cool if you guys could setup a better structure in the forum! sub-topics would be a great way to give an easy overview. e.g. Programming -> C | Python | IDE | Libraries samples samples qt OpenCv Ideas Getting things done processing Augemented Reality . - - - Thought about about topic concerning each os might be wise, too! (And what about stickies? e.g. tutorial that are read-only?)
I have the same problem as dkonhauser. I tried both preloaded images with negative result. I followed estrictily step by step the troubleshoting guide, but still nothing happened. It's not just the hdmi not showing anything, it's just that even the serial port does not show anything at all. I also wrote an email to udoo support but I still have no response. Honestly, I think my udoo was dead on arrive and it won't boot anyway at all.
Hi dtirados, Please provide your address using the contact form http://www.udoo.org/support/contact-us/ so we can ship the replacing UDOO, I'll be back to you as soon as possible with instruction for the return of the broken UDOO you received. I just downloaded the Ubuntu image via bit torrent, and then tried from sourceforge as well - I have the same problem with each file. Windows 7 tells me that I do not have enough drive space to unzip it... not surprising as I couldn't afford to but the 807,167,508,041,846 kB it tells me is the file size (~800 Petabyte) The compressed size is 733,757 kB I suspect this is related to the issues the person above is having.
@firehopper What excactly do you mean with bad spots? Do you mean that the card is physically defective? I have tried the Android image on the same card with no problems. @DracoLlasa I have tried SDFormater tool without any luck. After looking at the log file once more the line [ 2.358213] mmc0: Controller never released inhibit bit(s). triggered me and by googling I found out that the Raspberry Pi had issues with the mmc driver issues in the beginning especially with Kingston SD cards. Newer kernel realeases seemed to remove the mmc driver issue from the Raspberry Pi. So the solution at this point is to find a new SD Card from another manufacturer. Regards Powerage
After thinking for almost 24h that my udoo had died, I bought a total of four microSD cards, 2x16GB Optima class 4 cards, 1x16GB SanDisk Ultra HC I and 1x32GB SanDisk Ultra HC I. After putting the Ubuntu 1.2 image onto the SanDisk 16GB card using a Win7 64bit Notebook and the integrated SDCard reader with an SD-mSD adapter, at least I got some output on the serial console though neither a login prompt nor the gui showed up. I deleted my post "udoo appears to be dead" which I posted in this forum yesterday as it now clearly seems to be an sdcard issue and not a hardware issue as I previously feared. I am now trying the various cards with various images and software (I use Win32 disk imager normally but also have cygwin installed to use dd) in the hopes to get a system booting. It would be good if someone could post (or better yet put on the download page) the md5sums of the zip and extracted images (not everyone has sha-1 on windows). This way we could at least check that the images extracted without errors. I'm currently running md5sum on my quad images and will post them later along with my latest findings in getting my udoo to boot again. Update2: It seems the Ubuntu image I downloaded previously was corrupt. I have now downloaded the images again and get the following: Code: 410f7cb1927650019774b9ba730bb623 *udoo_quad_android_1.1.img cd666c4f884cea1a1972f3e42462198a *udoo_quad_android_1.1.zip d8606a2e0960a3759fc3d93b943bdb0c *udoo_quad_ubuntu_1.2.img 7a94fce0579404ba55189903615d02ae *udoo_quad_ubuntu_1.2.zip 2697bc31233d97151e815d2a45dc354d4625e69a *udoo_quad_android_1.1.img 029aa9a2227e4663bf3710e6d722087e41eb212e *udoo_quad_android_1.1.zip 7b8329c948a7fa50f8666e172ffd43f7a4f86194 *udoo_quad_ubuntu_1.2.img eb5d7b03c58b2151d41bf309cc3ead7e5632e5aa *udoo_quad_ubuntu_1.2.zip Here is the serial log of my current card, Ubuntu Image 1.2 downloaded from SF image (same as before, no GUI): Code: U-Boot 2009.08-svn82 (Oct 07 2013 - 13:43:50) CPU: Freescale i.MX6 family TO1.2 at 792 MHz Thermal sensor with ratio = 185 Temperature: 37 C, calibration data 0x59451a69 mx6q pll1: 792MHz mx6q pll2: 528MHz mx6q pll3: 480MHz mx6q pll8: 50MHz ipg clock : 66000000Hz ipg per clock : 66000000Hz uart clock : 80000000Hz cspi clock : 60000000Hz ahb clock : 132000000Hz axi clock : 264000000Hz emi_slow clock: 132000000Hz ddr clock : 528000000Hz usdhc1 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc2 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc3 clock : 198000000Hz usdhc4 clock : 198000000Hz nfc clock : 24000000Hz Board: i.MX6Q-UDOO: unknown-board Board: 0x63012 [POR] Boot Device: NOR I2C: ready DRAM: 1 GB MMC: FSL_USDHC: 0,FSL_USDHC: 1,FSL_USDHC: 2,FSL_USDHC: 3 In: serial Out: serial Err: serial Net: got MAC address from IIM: 00:c0:08:88:17:f5 FEC0 [PRIME] Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0 mmc2 is current device Loading file "/boot/uImage" from mmc device 2:1 (xxc1) 4119112 bytes read ## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 10800000 ... However this time I do have them both directly connected but they don't seem to be recognized at this point because neither the numlock nor the mouse optical led are coming on. It's hanging here forever. What I don't understand is that the first SDcard I tried (which is a Lexar 16GB class 4 card), suddenly didn't work any more while the system was actually running. And I checked the card with dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/null bs=512k and dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512k multiple times and no read/write errors were reported so I don't see how the card could be damaged. Is there any windows tool that can read the list of bad blocks from SD/mSD cards? But even if there are some corrupted blocks on the card, uboot should still come up unless the very first sectors of the card are actually faulty... In case this is somehow relevant, I'm using WinRAR 5.0 64bit edition for which I have a valid (personally paid for) license to unzip the images [Update4] I also tried 7zip but the sha1 sum is the same as when using WinRAR to extract the image file. So I believe it's not a problem unpacking the image Update3: Now none of my cards give any serial output, even those that I had confirmed to work previously. It's starting to get really frustrating One minute I see serial output and the next minute the serial console stays black and no matter what I do I don't get it back to doing anything. Maybe if I wait again until tomorrow evening I will be able to continue...
I start to believe that one of the issues I am having is with my mSD card reader. It looks like a USB stick with a mSD card slot at the end. It doesn't seem to work with all of my cards. I also got a SanDisk SD <-> mSD adapter with my new cards today and when I use the SD card reader built into my Notebook at least I seem to get better results. I'm still not able to get the GUI up but at least I see some output on the serial port now. I'll continue updating my previous post with further results but wanted to post this for others having problems with no output to try another card reader. This might solve your problem so you don't have to wait for another udoo to arrive as your board may be fully functional.
Hi all, Just an update regarding my trouble getting the Linaro image running on my Udoo quad. Earlier today I purchased a Transcend Micro SD card (8 GB, class 4) . I am now able to boot the Linaro image with no problems at all. Seems like the Kingston SD card isn't at good match with the Udoo board. Regards, Powerage
Thank you very, very much for your help maurizio. I'm writing an email at this moment to give my address.
I checked on argos.co.uk but the only 8GB cards they have are SanDisk. I have a 16GB and 32GB SanDisk card and while they seemed to work initially they stopped working now (at least in the udoo, on Windows and Linux they still work like a charm). Is there any reason why udoo wouldn't be able to load u-boot from cards bigger than 8GB? My udoo was working fine on a Lexar 16GB card for several days (I created a 2nd partition to mount as /home instead of expanding the root partition) before it stopped working completely. And my 16GB sandisk card at managed to load u-boot and the kernel several times before stopping completely again, though I'm sure it wasn't able to mount the rootfs which is why neither the serial login prompt nor the gui ever showed up. I'm wondering if udoo is actually "eating" my mSD cards, i.e. somehow alters them in a way that makes them unusable again on the udoo. But on the other hand my 32GB card never worked on the udoo... and the 16GB cards I loaded with yocto would at least load u-boot (although the board kept resetting shortly after the autoboot counter expired no matter if I tried to interrupt autoboot or not). Now that card, which I didn't modify after that one test, doesn't work either. I'm starting to think that my udoo is actually broken and that it's not related to the mSD card image. I even tried just loading u-boot onto a card using dd if=u-boot-q.bin of=/dev/sdb bs=512 seek=2 skip=2; sync which I believe should make udoo at least give the u-boot output on the serial terminal even though it won't be able to load the kernel and rootfs; but even that doesn't seem to work. In a last hope effort I ordered a microSD card sniffer from Sparkfun to see if udoo is actually trying to read from the mSD card. Unfortunately these were out of stock at the usual Sparkfun dealers in the UK so I had to order directly using USPS First-Class Mail International Package (all other shipping options were too expensive for a $10 item). I'm wondering if it is possible to boot from the secondary SD card interface that is available on the headers? Or if it is possible to equip udoo with an i²c or spi boot flash chip. These chips might not be big enough to hold u-boot but maybe I could at least boot a little self test binary that would tell me if my udoo is damaged or not. I also checked voltages on the 1st and 2nd pin on the jtag header J17A1 which is at 3.3V so I assume that the voltage regulators are working and the udoo is getting power. I haven't had a chance yet to connect any jtag adapter. The jlink arm I usually use is limited to Atmel (oem license) and I haven't unpacked my olimex arm jtag adapter yet which is still somewhere inside one of my moving cartons. So I can't check at this time if the cpu is functioning properly. The only other thing I can think of to try at this time is to reflow the iMX6 and the ram chips in case they haven't been properly soldered to the board. It might explain why the udoo stopped working after letting it run for a whole day while I was at work. Maybe when I then left it alone for a night and a day it semi-reconnected to the board but got disconnected again after heating up during my test session yesterday. Unfortunately I don't have a professional rework station but only a hot air station so I'd risk disconnecting some of the passive parts around the chips. It's certainly not something I'd like to risk if the solution could be much simpler. Maybe I should just forget about the udoo for a few days and wait until more tips are posted with things I could try that don't involve destroying the board. Or at least wait for that mSD sniffer to arrive to see if udoo is actually trying to read the sd card which should proof if this is indeed a card or hardware issue.
I think I found something... either my udoo just reset itself magically after almost 24h or there is a problem with the mbr on the sdcard. When I got the new cards they seemed to work for a while before everything stopped working and I no longer got any output on the serial console. Now I tried a program called MiniTool Partition Wizard for Windows. I deleted all partitions on the SDCards, told it to rebuild the mbr and create a single partition with fat32 fs. I did the mbr rebuild again after that just to be sure. Now I loaded the ubuntu image onto the card again and at least I get u-boot and the kernel to boot. Unfortunately I still don't get to the prompt but at least I again have some hope that my udoo board isn't 100% fried. I have an important meeting at work tomorrow morning so I can't continue troubleshooting this right now but this might be a viable solution for some booting problems. The only thing I don't understand is that the card images should normally start at the first sector and therefore contain the mbr... so even though it doesn't make sense to me right now I'm happy to get back to where I was earlier... Update: Or maybe not. Maybe it really just magically resets itself every night because now it's dead again after booting u-boot & kernel just two minutes ago. I even ran the whole mbr rebuild procedure again and it doesn't work now
I am not a very happy UDOOer at this point. I have posted twice in the forum about my UDOO Quad not booting AND sent a contact form and have gotten NO response. Yet when another user said they had the same problem as me - you offered them an UDOO swap. What do I need to do for you to address my issue?
