VIN Power

The Udoo Neo doc pages in Power Management have:

Power sources
You can power up the board in 3 ways

• DC-jack: internal positive, Voltage 6 to 15.
• microUsb: 5 Volts up to 2 Ampere
• Vin / GND pin on external pinout

Where is Vin/GND on the external pins? What is the max voltage for Vin?

 

The VIN / GND pin is on the internal row - there was an error in the documentation, I've just edited. If you just read from J7 to J5 pins you'll find the Vin pin between GND and A0.
WARNING: if you power up the board via VIN do not power it up via the standard power supply at the same time.

 

What is the max voltage for VIN? 3.3V? 5V?

No power light. I'm using a programmable power supply set at 3.3V output with a max of 2A. It shows no current draw.

 

I'm really, really sorry: I gave you the wrong answer. The correct answer is that the range goes from 5 to 12 V.

 

It doesn't boot at 5V but it does at 6V and above (I tested at 6V, 7V, and 12V). Thanks.

 

How have you powered it up? UDOO Neo boots at 5V via micro USB.

 

Yes, I've powered it up using 6V, 7V, and 12V. It would not power up at 5V. I've been using 12V for a couple of days with no problems.

So if you power it up via the power jack at 5V it doesn't boot, does it?
Another question: with "yes, no problems" you mean that you powered it up at 5V via micro USB, do you?

EDIT: we've just powered it up with a 5V 1.3A power supply via power jack to double-check your problem, and it boots.
Are you maybe trying to power it up at 5V while an LVDS is attached?

 

Using Vin/GND pins on the inner header I've powered the board using 6V, 7V, and 12V (5V did not power). I've powered the board using the micro usb when plugged into the usb of my computer. I haven't used the barrel jack to power the board.

My original question was how to power from Vin/Gnd pins, which you answered.

 

We have just tried to power the board via VIN and ground exposed on the pinout at 5V with a 5V power supply connected to the barrel jack with mouse and keyboard attached, and it boots.

 

OK, I want to use the Vin/Gnd without the barrel jack, which is working great! Thanks.

 

So, what is the correct voltage and current to apply to VIN pin? Can you please update the Docs?

can you please update this? The documentation doesn't even tell us a voltage range for powering via Via/GND pins. I assume it's 5V - 12V, but I'd really like some actually specs on it.

 

I think they fixed it. Now I read:

• Vin / GND pin on internal pinout: from 5V to 12V, min 2A. (If you are having problems powering the board with 5V, there may be a problem of leakage from the power supply. Try with a higher voltage e.g. 6V).
