I have installed Debian9 on EMMC (after formatting the whole drive). It was working fine for few days until yesterday. It wont let me sign in after booting up even though the user name and password are 100% correct.
Anyhow, so I decided to install ubuntu . I reached the UEFI screen successfully however it won't let me select any of the options except continue. if I select any of the other options it will just freeze until I hit ESC again . And if select continue I will end up having Debian login terminal again and won't let me to log in .
    I have the following:
    - Removing wifi kit
    - Removing RTC battery for an hour
basically only the bootable usb(even tried without) and keyboard are connected.
    Please Advise.

Are you sure your bootable usb is correct? Did you try it on another PC?

I will try and let you know. but does it really matters? shouldn't I be able to access boot option or any other option even without having bootable usb?

Yes, you should. Another keyboard is also worth to try if not done already.

Yeah, I was thinking keyboard, too, but he said the user id and password were 100% correct, which I took to mean he was able to enter this information by keyboard. Sort of sounds to me like the firmware is corrupt.

    Update : problem solved.
it was the screen I'm using apparently UEFI can't handle some resolutions or ratios.

Did you change the resolution before the problem arose?

now that's the strange part. because it was working just fine when I was installing Debian and I didn't change anything.
