Hi all, I was wondering what was the best way to connect multiple sata hard drives to the udoo. 1. sff-8643 m.2 adapters plug into the udoo 2. sff-8643 splits into 4 sata connectors 3. How do you power the 4 hard sata connected hard drives?
I may have mistaken SFF-8087 vs the U.2 NVME connector. I want the sata hard drive variation for a NAS type system.
The closest thing that got my attention a while back was this https://krysma.com.au/products/m-2-ngff-sata/krysma-m-2pcie-to-4-port-sata-6g-raid-adapter/ would possibly work on both M.2 Key B and Key M ports if it mounts properly.
Coincidentally I am building a TrueNAS NAS / VM host on my Bolt V8! I am using the following: "Rack" for HDDs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LF40KE/ Power for HDDs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MEDG1PM/ 4-Port SATA RAID PCIe Card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KYP5RRL/ M.2 to PCIe x4 Adapter for above card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z4QZ3K4/ It isn't really cost effective, but fun to build and I already have the Bolt anyways! So far it looks like it will work. I will report back later.
It does work as expected. I am going to do a proper post about it when I have time. It is very easy though, I had the card connected and powered during the TrueNAS install and it was recognized right away. I didn't have to hunt down any drivers or do any special configuration. Good luck!
Hi xohmz, Thanks for sharing this! I'm looking into doing the same thing here. I know you probably haven't had time to do a write up but could you send a photo or describe how you mounted the 4-Port card for the Bolt? Do the holes used for the mounting bracket align with any stand offs on the board? Thanks, Chuck
