Afternoon All After a long time of being powered down ,i powered up the bolt the other day and was greeted with a little puff of smoke from under one of the USB 3 conenctors... Device Manager doesnt show any issues, and i updated to the latest V1000 drivers. it appears that there is a hardware probelm with the USB ports. I have 1 USB3 connector still working, which i have a 4 port hub attached for keyboard and thumb drives. Are there any M.2 card that can give me USB ( prefereably USB-C) to give me more USB ports available for use?
What probably might have happened is you drew a lot of power from the port suddenly on power up so you might blown the power trace on the pcb, try using the port with an externally powered hub in case the data pins still work but just not giving any power on the power pins for the devices, as you seem not to see any problem with the device manager as you say. if in case the whole port is gone, I searched for M.2 USB host controller and got this as an example https://www.amazon.co.uk/Type-c-Controller-Transfer-Asm3142-Chipset-M-2-2-Ports/dp/B0CBWZCRQW?th=1 or https://www.delock.com/produkt/62843/merkmale.html?g=2451, both could be inserted in either the Key B or Key M slots but I could not find one with the ports sideways. I should guess without connecting the external power pins you might have problems with providing enough power for power hungry devices like external disks but again I am not sure.
