reading the information on the freescale website. so far I've found possible values for current consumption idle. in linux 500 ma ( note this is does not include due consumtion. and this is for one of the devel boards from freescale) 1080 h.264 playback in linux via hdmi 800 ma max power (fullly using graphics and playing 2 1080 movies all 4 cores heavily loaded) 3400ma so looks like we are going to need around 12 volts 4 amp supply minimum, 5-6 amp would be better.. esp with a usb hub and a sata hard drive if you have a quad.
That seems very high to me. 12v 4 amps is 48 Watts of power!! I hope they give out specific power consumption data soon. I got the option with the UDoo Quad and starter kit, which comes with a 12v 2 amp power adapter. Hopefully that is enough, or maybe they will supply a more powerful adapter if it is not enough.
thats a worst case type of thing. the values I posted was only for the cpu. nothing else ( cpu and GPU are on the same chip) Our values are likely to be lower for normal uses
Hi, there is an mistake in the calculation. http://cache.freescale.com/files/32bit/doc/data_sheet/IMX6DQAEC.pdf?fpsp=1 4.1.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings VDD_ARM_IN = 1.5 V VDD_ARM23_IN = 1.5 V VDD_SOC_IN = 1.5 V 4.1.5 Maximum Supply Currents VDD_ARM_IN+VDD_ARM23_IN = 3920 mA VDD_SOC_IN = 1890 mA so we need a Total of 5810 mA @ 1.5V (without GIPO, Ethernet etc.) I think the UDOO will be use a step down Step-Down Voltage Regulator so maybe we have an power efficiency by 70%. 5.81A * 1.5V = 8.715W power consumption for the ARM We are losing 30% on the voltage regulator, about 2.7W So we have a total power consumption by 11.4 W = about 1A @ 12V
