    Hi all,

I received an Udoo x86 Ultra this week and my first observation is that the CPU temperature, with stock heat sink and no fan (yet) seems “high”. Running Ubuntu 17.04, Idle temperature has been around 49C and mid 50s while under light load (e.g. web surfing). I have been playing around with different distros to see if they might have some impact to thermal performance but the results have been similar. Room temperature has been consistently around 21C.

Are these temperatures normal for the x86 Ultra? I thought I read that people using the Advanced with stock heat sink (and no fan) were seeing idle temperatures in the 30s. I guess i’m worried about leaving the Udoo on for extended periods of time or using it in headless mode.

If you mean 'core' temperatures, then that is about the same as I have with UDOO X86 Ultra, with Debian Stretch idling at X desktop:

Measured with Fluke 28 II multimeter:

    Room: 23.6 °C
    Heatsink: 44.1 °C

    From "sensors" command:

    temp1: 47.0 °C
    temp2: 47.0 °C
    Core 0: 50.0 °C
    Core 1: 50.0 °C
    Core 2: 50.0 °C
    Core 3: 50.0 °C

    Core 0: +55.0°C (high = +90.0°C, crit = +90.0°C)
    Core 1: +55.0°C (high = +90.0°C, crit = +90.0°C)
    Core 2: +52.0°C (high = +90.0°C, crit = +90.0°C)
    Core 3: +52.0°C (high = +90.0°C, crit = +90.0°C)

    Running 24/7.

Cool. Thanks guys. So it looks like my x86 is performing similarly. I also saw similar temps with Debian Stretch installed. I guess for long term reliability and potential variable load while running headless, I should mount a fan.

(And by “cpu” temp, I mean “core” temp)
